Big Foot Play for Youth Now Available For Free
Hi Friends,
"Big Foot" is a theatrical play that I wrote early in 2014 that tackles bullying and family issues that occur during a misguided father/son camping trip. During the trip the campers wind up in the middle of a battle between a dangerous bear and Bigfoot. The idea was to offer a play that schools could take and produce as an anti-bullying program.
Some of you may have noticed that the title is spelled "Big Foot" rather than "Bigfoot"; whether good or bad, this was done intentionally, I assure you. The idea for this story is based on a bullying incident involving my son that took place when he was in elementary school. A fellow classmate saw fit to make fun of my son's feet - claiming that his feet were very small. This led to our son becoming self-conscious about his feet to the point that he asked us to buy him larger shoes so that he could stick paper in the toes and wear them to school.
"Big Foot" was written with two different endings, one in which Bigfoot is a real character in the story and one in which, well, let's just say, things are not quite what they seem. You will have to read the story to see which ending I decided on. If you do read it, and it's a quick read, by the way, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the ending I used as opposed to the other ending and which one you would have rather read. If there's enough interest, I might rewrite with the optional ending.
I've thought a lot about bullying over the years because I present an anti-bullying show called "Pip-Squeak". Thinking and doing research on bullying can be quite depressing, I must say. Although, I will continue to present "Pip-Squeak" when asked for, I've decided to no longer write about or dwell on the bullying topic for the time being.
Thanks for reading,
Tony
